Simon Andrew Dunlap, who was thirteen years old and a resident of the Portland community, passed away at his home on December 19 after a yearlong battle with adrenoleukodystrophy. Simon was born on December 31, 2009, in Portland Oregon to Michael and Amy Dunlap. He was the youngest of two children. Simon attended day care, pre-school and elementary school through fifth grade at Valley Catholic School. He transferred to Cedar Park Middle School for most of the sixth grade. Simon transitioned to home schooling at the end of sixth grade and then attended Forest Grove Classical Conversations homeschool group in seventh grade. Simon’s favorite classes were math, science, Latin, and reading. Simon was an excellent reader and enjoyed reading to the Valley Catholic pre-school students. While at school Simon participated in cross country, track and field, and basketball. He played club soccer and really enjoyed playing on his friends’ futsal soccer team, the Ravens. He was involved in Cub Scouts at Valley Catholic and attended several scouting summer camps. Simon was a very loving, high-energy person. He loved the beach, going for walks with his dogs, discovering new places, doing anything with his big brother, Galen, and adventure in general. He also loved hot chocolate, ice cream, milk shakes and colorful sprinkles on baked foods. 😊 Simon is preceded in death by his grandmother, Sandra Reinebach. He is survived by parents, Amy and Michael, his brother, Galen, three grandparents, ten aunts and uncles, and twelve cousins.
