Sharon was born Sharon Eileen Marthaller on October 12th, 1937 at St. Vincent Hospital in NW Portland, Oregon. Her parents were Edward B. and Helen M. (Carr) Marthaller. She grew up in the old family home on SW Corbett Street attending St. Clare Grade School and graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in 1955. She loved the Young People’s Club at St. Lawrence Parish, Downtown. She was a big fan of the Portland Beavers Baseball Team when they played at the old Vaughn Street stadium. As a teen, she worked at Montgomery Ward in the offices on Vaughn Street near her dad who worked at American Can Company in the same neighborhood. She remembers attending the Rosary Crusade in 1954 with Fr. Patrick Peyton in the Multnomah Civic Stadium near the Cathedral. She danced to Guy Lombardo and his Orchestra at Jantzen Beach. She and her high school best friend Nancy Ryan saw Louis Armstrong live at the Paramount Theater in downtown Portland. She was married at St. Lawrence Church in 1957 and raised four children in Aloha, Oregon: Helene, Suzie, Jon, and Eric.
In 1993, she married Gabriel LeChevallier and together they travelled, cooked, gardened, and entertained family and friends in Lake Oswego. He passed away in 2013.
Over the years she worked in the purchasing offices of St. Vincent Hospital and Eugene Hospital and Clinic; later for a short time as a travel tour guide; an innkeeper of bed and breakfasts; and for the last several years she loved her Mary Kay Beauty Consulting business, which she considered to be a ministry to help ladies be beautiful inside and out.
She served as chairwoman of the Archbishop’s Seminary Tea for one year, and remained active each year after, recruiting many new members to the committee. For many years, she was a member of Our Lady of the Lake parish in Lake Oswego, and most recently of St. Stephen’s parish in SE Portland, where she was known and loved as Father Eric’s dear mother.
She loved to travel the world, and visited Mexico, Canada, Ireland, France, Italy, Sicily, Portugal, and Spain…and lots of travel within the US.
Her home was beautifully decorated and reflected her feminine style and loveliness. She had a well-provided and peaceful death surrounded by family, the sacraments of the Church, and lots of love and prayers.
She is survived by her beloved siblings: Richard (Dick) Marthaller of Baltimore, Maryland; Maryhelen Davidson of Dove Canyon, California; Monica Kelly of Long Beach, California; and Sheila Chavez of Carpenteria, California; her four children: Helene Spacek of Sunriver, Oregon; Suzanne Magness of Bend, Oregon; Jon Andersen of Portland, Oregon and Fr. Eric Andersen of St. Stephen Parish in Portland, Oregon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and the large and loving family of Gabriel LeChevallier.
