Surrounded by his loved ones, Richard Herz peacefully passed away Friday, March 18, 2022.
Richard was born September 23, 1941 in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. He was the youngest of 10 children. He was raised on a rural farm, played on both varsity basketball and football teams in high school and played the trumpet for the school band.
On August 19, 1961, Richard married Charlotte. They were graced with 3 children – Marcia, Mary and Rick. Family was very important to Richard and he loved having his family gathered together. He made it a priority to spend time with his children and 5 grandchildren. There are many memorable moments spent boating and water skiing, hunting, golfing, playing board games and enjoying family time in Black Butte.
Richard was a very active member with Beaverton Rotary since 1982. He promoted many charitable programs that are still essential to Rotary today. A highlight for Richard, as well as for his family, was the livestock auctions for Washington County 4H youth and the annual rose sale for scholarships. Richard worked as a ranch hand, shoe salesman for JC Penney and in 1980 started his insurance agency.
Richard is survived by two siblings, Loretta (Dave) Flom and JoAnn (Glenn) Morman. His wife, Charlotte and children: MARCIA-daughters, Kristin (Chris) Rainone and great granddaughter Kinsley, and Alysa; MARY (Mark) Bauer-Emily and Matthew and RICK- Brett.
