It is with sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Lawrence Vincent Peterkin. Larry, 81, long-time Wilsonville resident, died December 25, 2022 of pneumonia at Brookdale Senior Living, Beaverton, OR. Larry courageously battled Alzheimer’s Disease for nearly ten years. A funeral service was held on Friday January 6 at Gethsemani Funeral Home in Portland.
Larry was born Lawrence Vincent Klink, Jr. on February 10, 1941 in Portland, OR to Lawrence V., Sr. and Mary C. (Lynes) Klink. Two children were born to this union. Larry’s father passed away in 1944 while at training camp during World War II. Larry’s mother later married Laurence D. Peterkin in 1947, who adopted Larry and his sister Mary Jo in 1954; both children changed their last name to Peterkin.
He attended grade school at Holy Redeemer Catholic School in NE Portland, and graduated in 1959 from Central Catholic High School in Portland. He studied Drafting, Pre-Engineering and Accounting in college in Portland.
Larry met Georgene Mae Winistorfer as a teenager. On October 10, 1964, they were united in marriage in Portland, OR. Two children were born to this blessed union, Jeff and Julie. Larry and Georgene made their home and raised their children in Beaverton, OR before moving to Wilsonville.
Prior to his employment with Portland Bolt, Larry worked for Swan Wooster as a draftsman, Richard Bradshaw Consulting Engineers as a draftsman, and Hoffman Construction from 1970-1983 in various positions. Larry began his 20-year career with Portland Bolt & Manufacturing Co. in 1987 and worked in accounting before becoming the firm’s Controller. He retired in 2006.
Living retirement to the fullest, Larry was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with his close friends. He made an impressive nine holes-in-one! Larry and Georgene loved to travel and soak up the warmth of the sun at their favorite destinations of Palm Springs and Hawaii.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Mary Peterkin, and Lawrence V. Klink, Sr.; Georgene’s parents Joseph and Arvilla Winistorfer; and brother-in-law Gilbert J. Shaw.
Survivors include his dedicated wife of 58 years, Georgene, Wilsonville, OR. Two children and their spouses, Jeffrey T. Peterkin (Angie), Tigard, OR; and Julie C. Smith (Mike), Sherwood, OR. Four grandchildren, Collin Peterkin, Christopher Peterkin, Hannah Smith, and Emily Smith. Also surviving are his sister Mary Jo Shaw, Eugene, OR, and five nieces and nephews.
Private interment will be at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery, Portland. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Gethsemani Funeral Home of Portland, directors.
