On Thursday, February 2, 2023, Joseph W. Martin passed away at the age of 84. Joe was born on February 10, 1938, in Portland, Oregon to Joe and Lois Martin.
Joe started work for the Portland Fire Department on July 24, 1963, and retired June 30, 1993. He retired from the bureau as a Lieutenant at Engine 10
Along with working at the Portland Fire Department, Joe had some entrepreneurial desires. He owned and operated a laundry mat in Vancouver Washington. Upon retiring for the Portland fire department after 30 years of service, he owned and operated a dry cleaner. From there he drove a school bus for the north Clackamas school district. Joe enjoyed fishing of all kinds. He bowled in several bowling leagues including the Portland Fire Bureau bowling league. He pitched for Archer Blower on the 1962 AABC National Championship team. With his passion for playing, he decided to coach. He coached his sons to the ’72 13u/14u championship in Oregon City, OR. He really cherished his time coaching his sons and their friends in youth baseball. He also had fun rooting for the Oregon duck football team and the Portland Trailblazers.
Surviving family members include:
Dianne Hackett (sister), Mike Martin, Pat Martin, Craig Martin & Darcee Martin. He had 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
