Jim was born in Vanport, Oregon 76 years earlier to George and Eileen Malone. A Portland native, he attended St. Rita Catholic School, Central Catholic High School and graduated from University of Portland in 1970, where he pledged as a Brother in Sigma Tau Omega fraternity. Jim entered the US Marine Corps in 1966, while still in college and proudly served during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1978. Jim married Linda (Taylor) Malone in 1970 and together they raised three successful children while continuing to build a life in Portland.
Jim was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, football, baseball, hunting and fishing. He had fond memories of spending summers visiting family in Paisley and Lakeview, OR as well as Haverstraw, NY. Jim loved to travel and continued to do so with his family, visiting small, out of the way, towns to bustling big cities, all the way to Normandy, France. Jim enjoyed coaching many of the sports his children played and supporting from the sidelines for those he didn't.
He is loved and survived by his children, Shannon, Melissa, and Ryan; grandchildren, Jessie (William), Lucy, Bradley, and Emily and siblings, George, Eileen, and Kevin.
