Glenna Burnadeen Jones

October 7, 1931 — May 14, 2019

On Tuesday May 14th, 2019 Glenna Burnadeen Jones, loving mother of seven children, went home to be with The Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 87, due to her battle with cancer. Her children were beside her, singing, praying, holding her hands and just loving on her, as she ran towards the arms of Jesus. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of Christs love toward all that knew her and a very large family that will miss her every day.

Glenna was born on September 7th, 1931 in Sydney, Nebraska to Boyd and Bertha Cooley. She was their 4th child out of 8 children. On Jan 21, 1950 she married Lewis W Jones. They raised 2 sons Steven and Timothy Jones and 5 daughters Sherry Rice, Connie Wilson, Suzanne Carpenter, Jennifer Greiling, and Terryl Murphy as well as 3 grandchildren Nacola Ferrera, Bruce Drumright and Lesley Ware.

It should be noted in this Obituary that for the majority of Glenna's life she celebrated her birthday in September on the 7th because that's what her mother told her was her birthday. Later on in Life she received a copy of her birth certificate and it said she was actually born on October 7th, 1931. And since this was a legal document her date of birth for all that needed to know it, was to be said it was on Oct 7th, not September. Her mother clearly remembered her being born in September and said she should know. We continued to celebrate her in September!

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lewis W Jones, her parents Boyd and Bertha, siblings Carol, Boyd, Winona, Bob, Sharon, and Claryne and daughter Suzanne and son in-law Stephen Murphy. She is survived by her brother Bill Cooley and children Sherry and John Rice, Connie and Jeff Wilson, Jennifer and Michael Greiling, Steven and Valerie Jones, Terryl, Timothy and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Glenna was a licensed Realtor in the State of Oregon for many years. Besides being a very caring realtor, she held many other types of jobs. She worked with special needs children at a very young age, she did waitressing, she studied to be a beautician and worked out of her home cutting and perming and styling many heads of hair, she sold Watkins products, Tupperware, Avon, and Home Interiors. In the summers, she always found ways for her kids to make money so they could attend Church Camp in Canby Oregon. It was such a delight for each of them to be able to attend. She would pack their lunches and send them off picking beans, berries whatever she could find to ensure they made the money necessary to enjoy the time away. At times she would work right along with them to help fill their buckets and crates. They always seemed to make the right amount of money every year. Even with an occasional stop off at the Dairy Queen on their way home after a long hot day in the fields.

Glenna had a passion for art. She loved oil painting with her sister Sharon Rickert, and was accomplished in seascapes. She loved the Oregon Coast and would travel to stay and visit her sister often as they would paint together and take classes together. Her paintings of various seascapes and gardens were much admired by all her family and friends. In addition to oil painting Glenna loved gardening and growing her own vegetables, berries, grapes, tulips, iris, dahlias and the list goes on. Even when it was a struggle for her she still would always make it out to her vegetable garden or yard to gaze over the fruits of her labors. Glenna loved family times and seeing and visiting grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Christmas time was a favorite time for her, shopping and wrapping a gift for everyone in the family. She really loved to travel and go camping and loved owning an RV. We have many memories of family camping and vacations with her. She was always happiest when she was around her family. She was known for her sweet, kind, compassionate and forgiving heart to everyone. She loved attending Church and had a strong faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, which she passed on to everyone she knew and met.

Glenna attended many churches over her lifetime including Garibaldi Assembly of God (which is where she was first saved), Evangel Temple, Parkrose Heights Assembly of God, Good News foursquare, City Bible, East Hill Foursquare, and Bible Temple.

A celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday May 21st at 11am at Lynchwood Church of God, 3818 SE 174th Ave, Portland, OR 97236 (503) 665-6638.
