Gilbert Jean Amestoy was born in Paris, France on February 15, 1949, to Jean-Baptiste and Gracianne Amestoy. He passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, after a two year long battle with Pancreatic and Liver Cancer, surrounded by his family. To friends and family, he was Gil, Dad, Papa, and Frenchie. When he was 4, Gilbert and his parents moved to Los Angeles, California. After Gilbert graduated from high school, he went back to France and served in the French Army, following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. In 1972, Gilbert met the love of his life, Cynthia, and they married in 1974. Gilbert and Cynthia started a family in 1976 with the birth of Bill and in 1977 with the birth of Jennie. In 1978, Gilbert and Cynthia moved to West Linn, Oregon where they were active in the community and lived in the same home that was always home to friends and family to gather. Gilbert loved people, cooking, music, dancing, and serving his community by giving back through coaching Babe Ruth Baseball, West Linn Soccer and joining the Lions Club as an active member and holding many roles including president, in his retirement. Gilbert worked in sales during his careers, in retail, lighting, and retired from Eoff Electric as an expert in energy conservation and lighting. He loved working with and meeting people and won awards and recognition for his talents, for salesman of the year and through the Energy Trust of Oregon. Gilbert showed his love for his friends and family by cooking for them and pouring them a glass of wine. Gilbert didn’t know a stranger and made everyone he knew feel like they were family. Gilbert is survived by his wife Cynthia, his son Bill (Kat and Ginger), his daughter Jennie (Mike and Cameron), and his brother Paul (Karen, Patrick, and Henry). He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
