Elizabeth Ann Rowe passed on to eternal life on Friday, June 24 2022 at the age of 90 in Portland, OR.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Robert David Rowe, parents Elizabeth (Marshall) and Walter Scott Cadwell, and sister Blythe Persil.
Mother to Anne Rowe (Jeff Watters), Joe Rowe, David & (Caitlin) Rowe, Katie (Jason) Pinkowski. Very proud Grinny to Daisy, Chloe, Ellie and Caroline. Loved by many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and a dear brother-in-law Herb.
Liz Rowe is finally at peace after years of suffering with dementia, but her life should not be remembered for these last years when she really wasn't herself.
Liz raised 4 children with her husband Bob, worked at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee, and Universal Oil products in Illinois. She was a human computer (like the women in the movie Hidden Figures) and was a grade school teacher.
Liz's legacy is that of a life of volunteerism and generosity: from the soup kitchen at Our Lady of Lourdes in Chicago, Il, to St. Vincent DePaul in Prescott, Arizona, to Loaves and Fishes with Sacred Heart In Portland, OR, and countless other actions in between. Helping others wasn't a goal, it was her way of life. She was always there with an offer to pick you up at the airport, take your pet to the vet, or treat you to a meal at her favorite restaurant.
Liz always had an opinion and would love to share it. Whether it was a good movie you must see, her displeasure at dirty politicians, or her love for Bernie Sanders.
We all know Liz's true love was music, specifically Ragtime! She volunteered for the Portland Ragtime society, and attended several Ragtime festivals throughout the country. The only thing she liked more than listening to Ragtime was talking about Ragtime, and telling you about how much you should like Ragtime, too. Her pride and joy was her player piano that entertained friends and family at many parties. She didn't let the player piano do all the work, she took piano lessons up until Covid 19 arrived.
To remember and honor Liz, feed the hungry, support local music, and order an extra dry gin martini with as many olives as they'll give you.
